Chinese Panda
The Shenzhen Guobao Mint makes Pandas in sizes of 1-ounce, half-ounce, quarter-ounce, tenth-ounce, and twentieth-ounce, although the one ounce coins are by far the most popular.
The design of the Chinese Panda changes from year to year. The 2009 gold coin shows a pair of Panda cubs eating lunch in a bamboo grove. Chinese Pandas were first struck in 1982 at .999 purity.
Initial response to Chinese Pandas was strong in the U.S. and the Chinese Panda became a premium-priced gold bullion coin. In recent years, there has also been strong domestic (ie Chinese) demand for these collectible coins.
